What are the main concerns with digital marketing to the mass market?

24 October 2012

Having a good marketing and advertising strategy in place means that businesses get the right exposure of services or products there are offering consumers. In the past this proved to be a very expensive operation which involved a lot of planning. Digital marketing came along and offered businesses an affordable option that is proving to be very effective and the mass market is now aware of the benefits they can gain from it.

With the advent of agencies and consultants who now specialise in this field of work, online companies soon realised that these agencies offered them a way of getting their products or services noticed by consumers. They were able to instil the desire to purchase their products which meant they became valued customers.

Digital marketing works very effectively for online businesses but the effect on the mass market is having a somewhat peculiar effect and the reason for this is that it is governed by DRM (Digital Rights Management). This exists in the form of copy protections, online verifications and encryptions which protect and check revenues that are generated by items being sold.

E-commerce websites open up many doors and can this can have huge advantages and benefits for both consumers and the business which sets it up. There are however, certain key factors which have to be taken into account to ensure that the e-commerce website works well for the consumer and the e-tailer.

An online store works pretty much the same as any conventional shop, the advantage for the consumer is that they have access to a far greater amount of information about any product they may be interested in purchasing. This said, consumers will browse the Internet and visit many online stores to find the best bargain around. The fact they have access to reviews about products at their fingertips, means they are more inclined to use an online store than a conventional one these days as it takes up a lot less time and effort.

One of the main points to consider when setting up an e-commerce site is what it is you are actually offering the consumer and how much they really need the products you are selling on your website.

The importance of branding in the online business market

19 October 2012

Branding is a relatively new concept to online marketing and although it was commonly used in the offline marketing world, online marketers remained very much in the background. Things have changed dramatically over recent times and branding is now considered to be an extremely important factor for online businesses to succeed in a very competitive global market place.

Many people who use the Internet today expect to be entertained whilst they browse the Net looking for things they need or information about things that interest them. There are millions of websites for them to choose from, so anyone who wants to capture an audience has to make sure that their business is obvious right from the moment a viewer clicks onto their website.

Establishing a recognisable brand means that the audience has been captured and will normally stay on a website where they are familiar with the products or services that are being offered to them. They are more likely to interact with something they know and trust. It is a simple matter of them feeling secure with someone they consider an expert in their field of work. Very often just because you offer products or services at a lower price does not necessarily mean that you will convince a potential buyer to spend their money on your website, and this is purely because they lack faith in the site if they do not recognise the brand.

How do you measure ROI for video marketing campaigns online?

15 October 2012

Knowing that your online video marketing campaigns are actually achieving the results you had hoped for is an important factor when it comes to the effectiveness of it. Knowing how to measure how successful they are means being able to calculate your return on investment, known as ROI. This sounds pretty easy to do, but in fact it is not as simple as it first appears.

There are five basic ways of measuring ROI, the first being able to identify just what it you want to accomplish through your video and then see if this is indeed happening or not. The way to do this is pretty obvious as you need to know what audience you are targeting and what message you are trying to put across to them.

Once you have identified your objectives through your method of communication, you will be able to determine the returns that you are likely to get through the use of video marketing on your website. One example of calculating whether your message is achieving its goal is to see if it is saving your customers money on things that they are being shown.

How to find the right long tail keywords to focus a blog article on

12 September 2012

For individuals not fully abreast of the keyword situation online, a long-tail keyword can be a confusing term. In other genres, like science and mathematics, “long tail” refers to centralized distribution or a probability distribution. In search engine optimization (SEO), however, a long-tail keyword is a phrase which contains three to five (normally) words that are searched by a number of Internet users as they seek information.

Example: If a phrase like “losing weight without exercise” is a popular search term, this phrase ultimately becomes a great long-tail keyword. Since these phrases are much more specific, they’re overwhelmingly preferred by online businesspeople and search engines. Of course, these keywords constantly advance and change, especially in the genre of blogs. So if you’re searching for the best long-tail keywords to use with a blog article, you’re going to need some guidance.

Should you accept paid reviews on your website?

06 July 2012

There are a lot of things you’re going to learn as you begin to explore website-building, marketing and trafficking techniques, and ways to bring people over to your business on a long-term, repeatable basis. Some of what you learn are going to be good, solid, reliable methods. Other things you learn, more of the black-hat variety, are going to be snake oil salesman tricks – ways in which to dupe your audience. One of these ways is to accept paid reviews.

Now, don’t let this give you the wrong impression. A paid review does not necessarily have to be a crooked review. However, paying a writer money to write something for you automatically implies that they’re writing what you want them to write. Having them write a review then gives the automatic impression that you’re paying them to write a positive review. After all, who on earth would pay to have their product or service slammed in a negative fashion? No one.

So, if you’re hiring content writers to write basic content for your site and to put your product or service into a positive light, that’s perfectly acceptable. It’s something you should do. But if you’re trying to pass a paid review off as an unbiased review written by a real user of your business, this is where you’re crossing the line and will end up causing more harm than good with the decision.

How important is online video in relation to web search?

24 February 2012

Video SEO, or video marketing, is quickly becoming an important part of online search marketing that companies will ignore at their peril. As more and more people get access to broadband, watching videos online is becoming more common, and so that provides an ever-growing pool of prospective customers you can’t access by any more direct means than by posting videos.

This isn’t exactly a new thing. People have been using videos to promote their website or brand for a long time, and the format hasn’t exactly changed: give people something useful or entertaining for free, and tell them to come to your site for more. If you want to know how to grow a bonsai tree, there are videos that explain it, with links to a site where you can buy supplies.

Do you know how people find you online?

22 February 2012

You probably have a Google Analytics account, but if you’re not a search marketing wizard you’ve probably only used it to see at a high level how much traffic you’re getting, and where in general your visitors are coming from. Google Analytics can do much, much more though. While this isn’t intended to be a guide to using advanced features of Analytics, I’m going to show you a few tricks that can really make the info you get out of it work for you.

Knowing where your visitors are coming from, and expanding these channels, can make a huge difference to not only your traffic, but your conversions as well.

To illustrate my points I’ll be using data from one of my own sites, a fledgling retail site in a developing country. The site is spending about $100 a month on Adwords, and has spent a few hundred on sponsored posts and things like that, but has done little off-site SEO due to resource constraints.

How do you create an email marketing campaign?

08 February 2012

Email marketing, despite being around since the dawn of the internet, is still a major tool in most e-commerce business’s marketing toolkits. A large list of interested customers, who all came to your website by choice and signed up because they thought you had something good to offer them, can be a fantastic source of continuous and reliable revenue.

Creating an email marketing campaign requires three things: a good offer, good writing, and a good plan to get people clicking. It also obviously requires a large list of people who have signed up to a newsletter. A “campaign” includes all of the emails you will send in a specific order to new customers, or to your existing list. Let’s go through these three things.

You can of course set up your own campaign and do all of the mail merges, etc., yourself, but it’s much easier to use a service like aWeber, which does it all for you for only a few dollars a month.

How to Find a Niche

26 October 2011

Marketing is a rather difficult thing if you go about it in the wrong way. If done correctly, however, it can not only be easy but also bring you incredible results for your business. Marketing done incorrectly, on the other hand, like marketing too broadly, will waste time, money and quickly drive your business into the ground.

Finding a niche market for your business's product and/or service is the best way to go about searching for, communicating with and driving traffic to your business. A niche is already more likely to be interested in what you're selling, and it requires no magic, if you will, to communicate with them.

You will only have to stand above competition within that niche and not the entire market in general.

What is a website production company?

19 September 2011

You often think that your website just does not have the same appeal as your competitor’s sites. All the information you need is on the site but it just not look as professionally put together as you know it should look. The point is that you spent a lot of money having a web developer put the website together for you so although it really works well it just lacks a little lustre. It is just not doing it for you.

You mention this fact to a friend who runs a really great website that not only looks good but works like a dream in every aspect. He tells you about a website production company who built the site for him. So what is a website production company?

The answer is pretty simple to explain as it is a company that incorporates both web design and web development when they build websites for their customers.

Building a first class and efficient website requires two basic skills, one of which is you need good graphics on your site. The second is that you need all the programming necessary to make the site work efficiently.

Going into Business for Yourself, the Ultimate Business Oxymoron

What is the Future of Online Marketing?

29 April 2011

When one thinks about online marketing today it is pretty evident that search and social media are developing at a rate that is quite bewildering.

Proof of this fact is the traffic that Google or Twitter, now attracts to their websites. What is more astonishing is that Facebook now tops Google in weekly web traffic. The conclusion is that social media is intense.

With this in mind it is necessary to look to the future of mobile devices such as mobiles and iPads because they offer other search channels to the user and, it goes without saying, to the marketer as well.

Marketers have to recognise that these channels are where the customer is now looking on a regular basis. The social user is constantly hungry for information and likes to share this information with others. This being said it is an obvious platform for a new concept in online marketing.

If you are a seasoned internet user, you've probably already heard of viral marketing. The premise of viral marketing has actually been around long before the internet, right from the time conniving businessmen came up with Ponzi schemes. However, the term viral marketing is rather new, and came into existence thanks to the internet and online social media.

Just like a virus which spreads with little warning, and overpowers everyone it comes in contact with, a viral marketing campaign also worms its way into people lives. The only difference here is while people will step away the moment they know you have a viral-something; viral marketing actually brings people closer in many ways, and fosters new relationships in many others.

The Pros and Cons of Multi-Level Marketing Programs

25 December 2010

In some business circles, multi-level marketing (MLM) programs are avoided like the plague. Why? It has to do with the shocking resemblance they bear to those pyramid programs of old. In essence, most MLM programs are just dressed-up pyramid programs that are always hit-or-miss in terms of effectiveness.

Since pyramid programs are now illegal, MLM programs cant operate the exact same. However, many do bring similar elements into the fold and leave you at the top having to build your business through customer sign-ups, and their sign-ups, and their sign-ups.

MLM programs can be lucrative if you're a smart businessperson and conduct business the right way. They can also be traps, too, reeling you in and forcing you to spend a lot of money for little to no return.

Lets go over the pros and cons in a non-biased way.

A History on the Affiliate Marketing Model

17 December 2010

The model of affiliate marketing is pretty straightforward and simple to understand. In essence, if you make it your business to promote someone else's business, then you'll receive a percentage of everything you help that business sell. Offline, this model has certainly been used before. Online, its still in its infancy and has dozens of different stories about how it came to be.

No matter which story you read, the characters and time line and even certain aspects of the model are going to be different. However, the exact specifics of affiliate marketing's history do not matter nearly as much as knowing relatively where and how it started and how quickly it took off to become a billion-dollar industry.

The most accurate summation of affiliate marketing details: In the mid 1990s, as the Internet was first introduced to the mainstream market, cdnow.com, a music site, decided to try a new venture to increase their sales. If other websites would place links to cdnow.com, then that site would receive a portion of the proceeds for every album sold.

Offline Data Mining Strikes Gold

07 June 2010

You'll often hear the term "striking gold" associated with data mining. Just as gold miners received information about a patch of land and went in with their shovels hoping to strike it rich, data mining deals in relatively the same way. The process is becoming popular for businesses of all types, and if done right it can be an extremely low-risk, high-reward process.

Basically, data mining is the process of discovering and analyzing data from different perspectives. Once data is compiled and analyzed, it is then summarized into useful information for a business. The result, hopefully, will help to cut overhead costs, increase revenue and be an all-around tool for business improvement.

In a sense, you can think of data mining like election polling. With a strong sample group of voters, proper analysis can paint a picture of who's going to win the election. If you'll notice, however, there's a catch in this process. A person (statistic) would have to be present within a field in order to give a result i.e. a voter would need to be polled instead of a random person.

Creating a Dashboard of Vital Company Statistics

04 June 2010

A dashboard of vital company statistics can provide a snapshot of growth and expenses.

In business, a dashboard is similar to a dashboard you'll find in your car or truck. The vehicle's dashboard holds vital statistics, including your fuel level, speed, GPS system, radio, and other devices that tell you where you're going and how you're doing. Creating a business dashboard for your business will supply the same data.

By creating a dashboard, you'll be able to easily view vital statistics of your company's growth, expenses, sales, marketing, human resources, and much more. The idea is to create a data-rich set of controls that allow you to view your company's crucial aspects through a snapshot view.

Any company data, however, depends solely on your ability to access, analyze and interpret. After those three steps are completed, you must then communicate the findings with your staff and/or partners, or translate your findings into results. Without the process, data is just a bunch of numbers with no real importance.
