Is Web-Scraping Still in Fashion?
16 August 2010
Over the years, many techniques have been developed to give people a much needed edge in the online business world. While some techniques are above board and perfectly legitimate, othersknown sometimes as "black hat" marketing or techniques - are frowned upon. The process of web or data scraping is one those techniques that toes the thin line. Now, scraping itself certainly isnt immoral, nor is it a way of cheating to get information. However, there are some in the Internet marketing and business world who feel that scraping is an unsavory aspect, because it can easily cause markets to become flooded by leading to parity and even plagiarism. Basically, web scraping is the process of visiting and automatically collecting information from a website via a software program. It can also be done manually by copy-paste procedures, and some feel that allowing a human to do the scraping is far superior to letting an automated program handle it.

Effective Online Customer Acquisition Strategies through Competitive Intelligence
09 August 2010
Many strategies have been forged in the business world in order to help companies gather intelligence about their competition and to acquire and retain customers. Theres never a sole method to use; youll always be able to find competing strategies for your online business. Looking at the competitive intelligence method, well cover a bit about customer acquisition strategies.Competitive intelligence - or competitor analysis - is a system made up of fundamental principles that allow you, the business owner, to gauge your competition. This sounds vague, to be sure; and truthfully thats due to what the intelligence process encompasses. There are various sub strategies within the framework of competitive intelligence. Think of it like spying, if you will (only not sinister by any stretch). Youre basically trying to find out how your competitor thinks, what his/her strengths and weaknesses are, how to plan a course of attack and carry it out, and what the risks are to you and your business by doing so.Do I need to do online Advertising in the Start-up Stage of my Business?
19 July 2010
People have been working for years on perfecting the online business formula. The Internet can be quite fickle at times. Sometimes it's a mirror of the real world, and other times it's a world unto itself, where everything's completely out of whack. Although there are certain steps preferred by online gurus, there's no real set formula to follow closely when building a business.A lot of people put emphasis on online advertising; and while they rightly should hone in on this method and work in multiple ways to drive traffic to their sites, sometimes folks get ahead of themselves and do more harm than good. The opinion that online advertising can come later in the game is certainly up for debate. Some in the online business world would insist that you advertise first before all else. However, exploring advertising options and learning about marketing while taking care of other aspects of your business will enable you to hit the ground running.

28 June 2010

Alternative Payment Methods: Getting it Right
01 April 2010
If you're running an online business, there are some pretty common sense things that you're probably well aware of. The biggest being, no matter how much you'd like to, you cannot accept payments in cash. This means you must offer alternative payment methods to your customers. This is something you must get right. There's absolutely no room for error when dealing with your business's money. Moreover, offering more options for your customers means that you will actually have more paying customers. Not everyone has credit cards these days. Due to the still-going worldwide recession, even some people with credit cards don't want to ring up charges due to the higher interest rates companies are charging. So this leaves you with a bit of a problem if you're only accepting one form of payment.

Spam - how does it harm your business?
22 December 2009
Not everyone with a computer will end up starting an online business, but most of us with computers have email addresses that we check frequently. There’s one thing that almost everyone can agree on when it comes to email: we hate spam!Spam, or unsolicited email as it is known, is not only annoying, it can be outright dangerous. Many people send viruses out in spam mail. You click on a link thinking you’re winning a free subscription to Sports Illustrated, the next thing you know you’re infected with malware.Spam is also a way that some overzealous businesspeople hope to get traffic to their sties. If you have an online business, take care not to employ spamming as a tactic. It does more harm than good.
