Apple has been far ahead of the game in terms of technological advances for the past decade. Not that Windows and other tech companies are obsolete, but Apple has a market share that gives Bill Gates nightmares. With a 7.9-inch 1024x768 HD display, the iPad Mini is available for right around $300, making it a lot cheaper than the full-sized version. Can You Run a Multi-Person Business From an iPad?

05 October 2012

Loads of Apple fanboys are touting the iPad’s capability, with one marketer taking on the challenge of only using his iPad to do his job for 30 days.  But can you run a business that employs several people entirely from an iPad?

The answer is yes, there’s an app for that. Or a suite of apps, rather – nobody has designed a “Small Business Management” app yet, and we don’t expect to see an iPad capable of handling one very soon.  However, for most important functions, there is a ready-made solution:
Document management and collaboration – Google Docs

There’s a free Google Docs app, and it does everything a $15,000 server and network can do, only a little slower and less pretty. You and your employees (or selected employees) can access and collaboratively edit as many documents as you please, without it costing you much at all (aside from Google Apps for Business licenses).

How to Use WHOIS to Learn about Your Competition

11 April 2012

As you will learn when building and promoting a website, the internet is extremely competitive. In fact, the World Wide Web is probably the most competitive industry in the history of mankind. And it’s not because big companies spend big money; to the contrary, it’s more the fact that anyone can start up a website with little capital and use common sense methods to market within their respective niche.

This means that the internet is also a cutthroat place, where some pry, lie, steal and cheat in order to get ahead. At the very least, you will have to put on your detective hat to do a lot of research on the competition if you hope to succeed in your chosen marketplace.

To research your competitors out there, WHOIS is undoubtedly the strongest resource you have at your disposal. WHOIS is a free-to-use database that catalogs every single legally registered domain in the world. By searching for a domain via this directory, you can learn a lot of details about the site. Needless to say, this information can be vital to your own campaign; learning details about your competition can help you propel past them

Web site Design Mistakes - Database Parameters in URLs

20 May 2011

A good website needs to be thoroughly planned and extremely well thought out, otherwise it will not even get over the first hurdle that it encounters when search engine optimization is asked to play its part in the process of getting a site noticed.

Database Parameters in URL must be considered by website designers as these indicate to a server just what should be loaded onto each page on the site. In brief the page is activated by every click, the page effectively becomes dynamic.

Search engines use robot programs to index sites and unfortunately these robot programs despise dynamic pages, this often results in a site not even being listed by the search engine. In effect it is disastrous for the site.

What is the Future of Online Marketing?

29 April 2011

When one thinks about online marketing today it is pretty evident that search and social media are developing at a rate that is quite bewildering.

Proof of this fact is the traffic that Google or Twitter, now attracts to their websites. What is more astonishing is that Facebook now tops Google in weekly web traffic. The conclusion is that social media is intense.

With this in mind it is necessary to look to the future of mobile devices such as mobiles and iPads because they offer other search channels to the user and, it goes without saying, to the marketer as well.

Marketers have to recognise that these channels are where the customer is now looking on a regular basis. The social user is constantly hungry for information and likes to share this information with others. This being said it is an obvious platform for a new concept in online marketing.

There are multiple different ways in business to lighten your load. You can get an investor to help with your startup capital. You can hire a business partner to share some of the responsibilities. One of the best ways to ensure that you get to spend more time being the business owner instead of the Jack of All Trades is to outsource work when it's needed.

Outsourcing is always popular and can be found in nearly every country around the globe. There are always a slew of people in the freelancing market looking for outsourced work. It can also be cost effective, quick and allow you to move on to other projects while your short-term employee handles what you need handled.

There are quite a few negatives to outsourcing, however. You could always find someone wrong for the job or who seemed right for the job before doing poorly with it. You can wind up in monetary disputes that remain unsettled and end up wasting your time and money. You could also hire someone only never to hear from them again.

Is the iPad a Game Changer for the Mobile Browsing Market?

29 October 2010

When you think in terms of business, no advertising medium has ever come along with the power, speed and convenience of the Internet. The evolution of the Super Information Highway itself has been the biggest game changer in business history and each new device that pops up and allows Internet access has the potential to change the game as well.

After the boxy PC morphed into the laptop, more and more people were able to get online while out of their homes. This was taken to brand new heights with the invention of smartphones like Apple's iPhone. With the current release of the iPad, we see another marvel of modern technology that has enabled people to access the net while on the go.

The iPad is about the size of a hardcover novel, so it isn't as sleek and small as other mobile devices. At roughly 10 inches by 8 inches, this tablet computer is marketed as a platform for audio/video like books, music, movies, games and, of course, web content.

Is Web-Scraping Still in Fashion?

16 August 2010

Over the years, many techniques have been developed to give people a much needed edge in the online business world. While some techniques are above board and perfectly legitimate, othersknown sometimes as "black hat" marketing or techniques - are frowned upon. The process of web or data scraping is one those techniques that toes the thin line.

Now, scraping itself certainly isnt immoral, nor is it a way of cheating to get information. However, there are some in the Internet marketing and business world who feel that scraping is an unsavory aspect, because it can easily cause markets to become flooded by leading to parity and even plagiarism.

Basically, web scraping is the process of visiting and automatically collecting information from a website via a software program. It can also be done manually by copy-paste procedures, and some feel that allowing a human to do the scraping is far superior to letting an automated program handle it.

Many different strategies are still currently viable in todays marketplace, but link building is by far the mother of all. Learning some advanced link-building techniques can easily increase your traffic flow and ultimately help your business to succeed.

Simply linking articles in a host of general directories could be enough to spell success. It all depends on where you market and what youre marketing.

One of the most appealing attributes of YouTube is the viral videos. If you're planning on picking up any type of subscribers here, you can't simply be a commenter on the site. 02 July 2010

Networking has been through a lot of ups and downs over the past few decades. Before the Internet came along and took business to an entirely new level, networking was catching a lot of grief from people who couldn't find success. They would toss out business cards at random, buy advertising space for inferior products, and expect to become rich in their respective market.

Most failed drastically and opened the door for more qualified contenders. These beginning networkers insisted that networking was a wasted effort. However, the Internet has changed that completely. Now, essentially, you cannot operate a successful business without networking.

Networking is not all about advertising your product. That's the first mistake people make. Networking is more about getting your name out there, meeting people, making connections, and tapping into markets using both your person and your business.

The Pros and Cons of a Dedicated Office Space

21 June 2010

A dedicated office space in the Internet world could be referred to as a virtual office. Simply put, a virtual office is an offsite location where a professional staff steps in and provides services for your business that a real office would. This allows you to maintain a strong sense of professionalism in the business world, even without having a large company.

Dedicated offices offer your business the advantages of telephone messaging and address services. By leasing out virtual space from a reputable company, you have the features of a real office at a price that could be merely a fraction of a real estate lease.

Offline Data Mining Strikes Gold

07 June 2010

You'll often hear the term "striking gold" associated with data mining. Just as gold miners received information about a patch of land and went in with their shovels hoping to strike it rich, data mining deals in relatively the same way. The process is becoming popular for businesses of all types, and if done right it can be an extremely low-risk, high-reward process.

Basically, data mining is the process of discovering and analyzing data from different perspectives. Once data is compiled and analyzed, it is then summarized into useful information for a business. The result, hopefully, will help to cut overhead costs, increase revenue and be an all-around tool for business improvement.

In a sense, you can think of data mining like election polling. With a strong sample group of voters, proper analysis can paint a picture of who's going to win the election. If you'll notice, however, there's a catch in this process. A person (statistic) would have to be present within a field in order to give a result i.e. a voter would need to be polled instead of a random person.

Creating a Dashboard of Vital Company Statistics

04 June 2010

A dashboard of vital company statistics can provide a snapshot of growth and expenses.

In business, a dashboard is similar to a dashboard you'll find in your car or truck. The vehicle's dashboard holds vital statistics, including your fuel level, speed, GPS system, radio, and other devices that tell you where you're going and how you're doing. Creating a business dashboard for your business will supply the same data.

By creating a dashboard, you'll be able to easily view vital statistics of your company's growth, expenses, sales, marketing, human resources, and much more. The idea is to create a data-rich set of controls that allow you to view your company's crucial aspects through a snapshot view.

Any company data, however, depends solely on your ability to access, analyze and interpret. After those three steps are completed, you must then communicate the findings with your staff and/or partners, or translate your findings into results. Without the process, data is just a bunch of numbers with no real importance.

Choosing Keywords Wisely for Search Engine Optimization

17 May 2010

Keywords in business can be a complete paradox. On the one hand, theyre so easy to understand that even explaining them almost seems redundant. On the other hand, though, theyre so dependent on search trends and usage that learning how to correctly use them can be a very long and drawn out process.

The basic trick to choosing keywords wisely and making them work for you is to always be relevant to your business and to leave the market alone. What that means, basically, is to use keywords that relate to your specific site and your specific product within the market rather than using the most popular search terms in the market for your product.

Example: If youre trying to sell how-to books dealing with home gardening, then your market cannot be simply home gardening. Youre dealing with too broad a topic here. Instead, you have to narrow it down and use keywords within the how-to market to ensure you earn better site placement and ultimately receive more visitors with vested interest in your product.
