Consider Your Business and Its Real Contribution to Society
22 October 2010

Longevity is becoming more and more elusive, but it's still pushed for like never before. If you want a long-term respectable business, then you need to be viewed as a positive contributor to society. You have to be a giver in certain ways instead of a taker. This may seem a little tricky on its surface. After all, if you're in the business of selling goods and/or services to people, how could you possibly be a giver? For starters, think about how well your product is received. If you're selling something that people truly want and that will truly help people, then you're a positive contributor. We're all customers. We all buy things. We all know how the world works. You won't necessarily be viewed in a negative light just because you're in business. You can still be a giver. What you don't want to do is to be in the business of solely turning a profit. This means, simply, to not sell garbage products to people for the bottom line. If you do this, you'll quickly be spotted and, while you may turn a profit, you won't have any longevity. Your business will be viewed as a pure taker and your flame will quickly be extinguished.Other ways your business can be a positive contributor to society is to have a positive influence on the immediate community. If you run an on-location business, this is obviously self explanatory. You'll be a local employer and, if you want to help further, you'll also donate to local causes and become a staple. If you're running an online business, this is a little more difficult. What you'll have to do is be more involved with your customer base. Let them know that you're an actual person that will address their concerns and that does share similar problems. Compassion is able to show through in business. It's never only about the profit. If you haven't considered your business's real contribution to society yet, then you better make sure it's making one before you start. To be a receiver in the business world, it starts with being a giver.
