How can technology help my business to expand into social media?
10 October 2012

More and more businesses are realising how much they can benefit from the marketing platforms that social media offers them, it is obviously very tempting to jump on the band wagon as soon as feasibly possible. The fantastic leap that technology has offered both small businesses and corporate companies to expand to the far corners of the world has meant a complete rethink on how businesses are run in today’s fast moving world.
The Internet opened up many doors and online marketing presented new challenges for businesses in general. With the advent of Facebook and other such sites, it was only a matter of time before marketers realised what great marketing platforms they had at their fingertips. Social media enhances business productivity by allowing companies to use important tools which allow business collaboration, as well as offering them the opportunity of setting up a very professional looking organization. This is all achieved by social bookmarking tools.
When it comes to researching customers, social media offers corporations a virtual marketing research tool which is extremely cost effective. Companies can see precise data on potential customers and this shows them what these customers are looking for when they visit their websites. The data they gather can be analysed then used to their advantage. It shows companies if they need to improve certain areas of their websites, or even their products/services they are offering customers via their websites.
The technology behind social media and search engine optimization provides extremely effective marketing tools because social media communities have leverage on how the web works for them. The simple truth is that most people today find all the information they need in two ways and these are firstly via searching through their browser and secondly from trusted recommendations who have had good experiences when dealing with e-commerce websites.
For everything that works extremely well and social media does offer companies many advantages, there is always a downside. When using social media platforms to expand your business opportunities successfully, you have to ensure that your business is more than just transparent. Consumers that use the Internet to purchase items or find services they may need to use must have a clear vision of how you and your business operate. This is more than just expected of e-commerce businesses these days. If a potential customer has any doubts about your company, they will find someone they feel they can trust instead.
Social media has opened the doors to marketing in a very positive way, but visitors to e-commerce websites, once they have been captured, need to feel comfortable about doing business with the site they are on. Being transparent means you can create a community around the products or services you are offering people. The end result is a better relationship between a company and their customers. In short an initial trust is established immediately.
There are many factors to consider when using technology to help your business expand through social media. These include evaluating current processes and updating them if you need to. Are you synthesizing qualitative insights as well as analysing hard data and most importantly are you evolving the tools and methods which will allow you to measure your success rate?
The whole concept of using the technology available means understanding how it will benefit your business, but the key to the whole process is in understanding how to use it to your best advantage.
