Top 10 places to get a free backlink
02 July 2012

As search engines prowl the jumbled mess of content dumped into the ether of the internet every single minute, they’re looking for common themes and links and relative keywords and other things to pull up from the abyss. It’s a SNAFU of confusion down there, and having relevant links of your site that the spiders can grasp onto is one of the best ways to have a rope reach your site and pull it nearer the top of the mountain.
But how do you go about getting these backlinks? As we have discussed in a previous article, you can most certainly buy them. You can pay money to have a high-quality site display your content and ultimately your backlink. You can even work out some type of exchange. Or, if you’re the savvy, do-it-yourself type who likes to work organically and on the cheap, you can find many free backlink resources. Here are ten of them you should try out.
10 Free Backlink Resources to Try
1: WordPress.com
As a free blogging system, you can create a blog on WordPress to accompany your website. In fact, you can create as many blogs as you want. Just make sure you’re adding relevant content and that you’re linking inside of content that’s related to your site. It’s a great way to create a network.
2: Blogger.com
There’s nothing different here than with WordPress. The same theory applies. It’s just a different free blogging platform. You can argue with yourself over which is more popular. The smart businessperson will use them both.
3: Squidoo.com
From a single page on Squidoo, you can add multiple links. You won’t want to add too many, and you will always want to ensure that you’re presenting something of quality that visitors will actually be interested in.
There are hundreds if not thousands of article directories out there. You create an account and write an article. You can add a backlink in the “About the Author” section or perhaps in the content, depending on the site’s rules. But it’s a great way to add links.
5: Business Directories
The same thing applies here as with article directories, except that you will have to gear your content more toward the business world. This is a no-fluff zone, so to speak. Run a quick search of your business directory options (and for these other options).
6: Linkmarket.com
Linkmarket helps you to get your site out there by hooking you up with other websites and making it easy all around to share links and to add backlinks.
7: Guest Posts
If you’ve ever visited a popular blog, you will notice that it’s popular in part because it’s constantly adding fresh content. Well, most of these blogs allow users to submit guest posts. If you can find some blogs accepting posts, you can get a do-follow link added.
8: Forums
Most forums are not policed for links. The trick here is to make sure that you’re not seen as a spammer. Use your backlink as your signature and make sure that you’re responding with something relevant.
9: Press Release Distribution Sites
Run a quick search for all the many sites distributing free press releases. This is going to veer more toward news, so you content has to be based on the “news” side of your business.
10: FreeTrafficSystem.com
Using this site will require just a bit more skill than using other sites, but the beauty is that you can post relevant backlinks for free and have them viewed by many people. Although it might not be as popular, your links are going to stand out if they’re surrounded by good content.
Backlinks are incredibly important to the overall success of your website, so never neglect to use as many resources as you can. Nobody ever said that this was going to be an easy venture. And if they did say that, they were obviously lying. You will have to put the time in, but you will be rewarded for it.
